Are the items made from Plaster of Paris?
No. Modern day plaster is far from the original composition. Modern day plaster is actually, Fiberglass Reinforced Gypsum Cement (FGR). Filaments of fiberglass are added to the gypsum for added strength and durability. The result is a very strong, crack-resistant, composition that can be used for interior and exterior applications. Please see our “Why Plaster” section or call us with any questions.
Can your products be used for exterior applications?
Yes. Each of our offerings can be made for exterior applications. We use an enhanced composition of FGR and use a latex resin as the liquid, instead of water. The result is an exceptionally resilient surface (almost like a hard plastic) that is extremely moisture resistant. You can still have the quality and detail of plaster and while enjoying the benefits of modern technology.

How do I finish plaster?
Plaster is a porous material and needs to be sealed. To seal the surface, apply at least one coat of primer. For interior applications, use any type of paint or faux finish technique. For exterior applications, we suggest adding a thin layer of red (or similar color) paint over the primer coat. Then apply your finish coats. This technique should really be used for any exterior architectural details that require painting. As the elements wear away the topcoat, the red paint will start to become visible, indicating that your project needs a paint job. Somehow, this technique/information seems to have been lost over the years. Following this practice will ensure that your exterior details have a long and glorious (and indefinite) lifespan…
